This is just the first of many to open in the capital.

Abu Dhabi is renowned for its hot climate, with only a few months of pleasantly cool weather when outdoor spaces thrive. Now, the city is redefining summer comfort with an innovative solution: its first fully air-conditioned outdoor walkway. Located in the Al Nahyan area near the Al Mamoura building, this climate-controlled path maintains a comfortable 24°C year-round, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors even during the peak of summer.

The walkway is designed to allow natural sunlight to filter through while keeping the cool air inside. The walkway is equipped with a state-of-the-art cooling system. Embedded along the pathway, this maintains a steady temperature of 24°C, no matter how high the temperatures rise outside. It features retail outlets, cafes, and outdoor seating areas, so you can relax, shop, and socialise all year round. This means that you can enjoy a stroll sans the scorching heat.

In addition to being a cool open space — literally and figuratively — the walkway’s walls have advanced sound insulation, which does not allow the traffic noise to sweep in while you’re walking. This ensures a peaceful environment, making it the perfect spot for enjoying a leisurely morning or evening walk.

This walkway is an innovative project that’s part of a broader initiative to enhance urban living in Abu Dhabi, making the capital more walkable and enjoyable throughout the year. Launched by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, this marks the first phase of a larger vision to integrate climate-conscious solutions into public spaces.

With this fully air-conditioned outdoor walkway now open and more on the way, you can now enjoy the outdoors at the peak of summer in the capital.
