Dine across the subcontinent with dishes from the royal kitchens.

Following success in Doha, Mumbai, and New Delhi and a coveted MICHELIN star in London, Jamavar has finally made its Dubai debut in the shadow of the Burj Khalifa.

Those familiar with the London outpost will be surprised by the latest location, which boasts a regal feel and a more sophisticated and spacious dining room. A seat on the leather banquettes lining the edge of the room allows diners to appreciate the grandeur of the space, from the sparkling chandeliers and statement artworks to the inner workings of the central bar, where skilled mixologists churn out colourful cocktails with whimsical names like Cherry Chilli Margarita and The Royal Tuxedo.

The setting is as regal as it is charming. Tanjore paintings sit in chunky gold frames lining the wooden panelled walls, while textiles display flourishes of palatial India. A small street-side terrace decked out in yellow hues is inspired by Alphonso Mango Season and allows for seating amidst flourishing foliage on the busy Boulevard.

Taking its name from the intricate 16th-century lace shawls of Kashmir, Jamavar draws inspiration from the Viceroy’s home in New Delhi and has gained recognition for its pan-Indian cuisine from Culinary Director Surender Mohan. The menu pays homage to the subcontinent, showcasing dishes from the royal kitchens of Northern India and the coastal cuisine of its Southern states. The menu follows the beats of its London counterpart, although Dubai exclusives have been added (paneer kulcha with Beluga caviar, anyone?); however, for a true taste of Jamavar, the tasting menu comes highly recommended.

Jamavar Dubai

Jamavar Dubai’s à la carte menu delights with dishes that showcase India’s diverse flavours and regional cuisines. The restaurant prides itself on using the finest ingredients, ensuring the aromatic curries and tandoor grills offer a harmonious blend of spice and texture. Instead of starters, a selection of small plates is offered, and we studiously work our way through the signatures.

The Chandni Chowk Ki Aloo Tikki (AED 70) is an expertly spiced fluffy potato tikki served with yoghurt, tamarind and mint chutney that offers a sweet sensation and some tempting textures. The Hyderabadi Pathar Gosht (AED 390) is another Dubai exclusive that showcases A5 wagyu prepared upon a hot stone alongside a moreish bone marrow salan. However, the Kid Goat Shami Kebab (AED 110) is the talk of the table, serving a puck-like kebab of tender meat amidst a robust bone marrow sauce and fabulously flaky chur chur paratha.

Mains, biryanis and tandoor dishes form the heart of the meal, and while the Malai Stone Bass Tikka had the MICHELIN inspectors in awe in London, we’d suggest Leela’s Lobster Neeruli (AED 195). This silky-smooth subtle dish is concocted with southern spiced coconut milk, pearl onions, and kal dosa, coating the delicate lobster pieces without overpowering. We can also attest to the Old Delhi Butter Chicken (AED 145) with its alluring mix of chargrilled pulled chicken, fresh tomato and fenugreek. Accompanied by an assortment of breads dusted with kalonji seeds and Dum Gosht Biryani (AED 154) made from lamb, basmati rice, and crispy onions – it’s a winning combination.

Jamavar’s decadent desserts include Rhubarb Chuski Falooda (AED 60) and the Chocolate Coffee Delice Valrhona Chocolate with cardamom ice cream (AED 62). However, if you have ever wondered what it would look like if The Incredible Hulk made MICHELIN meals, the result would likely be the vibrant green Pistachio Milk Cake (AED 65) floating upon a bed of pistachio milk and topped with cream cheese, vanilla and pretty pink rose petals.
