During An Evening with John Cleese in Dubai, he will be sharing stories from his life and career. Expect anecdotes from his time with the comedy troupe, Monty Python. Plus, stories from his time working in films including A Fish Called Wanda and the TV series Faulty Towers.
John was born in Weston Super Mare, England. When he studied Law at Cambridge University, he joined the theatre group, Cambridge Footlights. He came to prominence with the comedy troupe, Monty Python. Formed in 1969, it included Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam. The comedy series Monty Python’s Flying Circus aired on the BBC from 1969 to 1974 and developed into films, books and musicals.
John worked on spin-off films including Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life. He also starred in the films Clockwise, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Time Bandits. Plus, he portrayed the character of Q in two James Bond films, Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough.
Over his career, he has won a BAFTA Award for his portrayal of the hotel owner, Basil Fawlty in Faulty Towers. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for A Fish Called Wanda.
