All clues suggest that the Broadway musical is coming to the capital.
We’re not throwing away our shot. We’re calling it: The Broadway musical Hamilton is coming to Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Platinum List UAE shared a teaser on social media, and all clues point to the Founding Father of the United States, Alexander Hamilton.
Platinum List UAE shared the teaser on Instagram. The post read: “History is happening. May 9, 11AM (GST). Watch this space.” The caption tags Etihad Arena, which leads us believe that it is coming to the Yas Island location.
The post includes the signature silhouette from the Hamilton musical and catchy music from the soundtrack. So, if you want to be in the room where it happens, here’s what you need to know.
Hamilton was created by actor, singer, composer and all round wunderkid, Lin-Manuel Miranda. He is behind the musicals Encanto, In the Heights and Moana. Plus, he starred as Jack in Mary Poppins Returns.
Premiering in 2015, Hamilton is one of Broadway’s most ground-breaking musicals. The show tells the story of Alexander Hamilton’s life. What sets it apart is its combination of traditional costumes with a hip-hop-inspired soundtrack and diverse cast.
Lin-Manuel has described the show as: “America then, as told by America now”. The musical broke ground for its colourblind casting, which featured black, Latino and Asian actors as white historical figures such as Thomas Jefferson to George Washington. Plus, it has a pro-immigration message.
Hamilton holds the record for the highest number of Tony Award nominations. It ended up with 16 nominations and 11 wins. Plus, it won six awards at the Laurence Olivier Awards.
If you want to get familiar with the songs, we’d recommend watching the filmed version of the Broadway production on Disney+.
