The show combines music, dance and storytelling.
Dubai, it’s time to make some noise. The world-famous musical, STOMP, is coming to Dubai Opera. Running from 29 to 31 May, it sees performers transform everyday objects – including the kitchen sink – into musical instruments. Now, it is making its UAE debut, and here’s what to expect.
STOMP is a unique show that started in the United Kingdom, and went onto tour the world. In 1991, the group was created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. The show first previewed at Bloomsbury Theatre, London, and went on a tour that culminated at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London. In 1994, it won the Best Choreography Award at the Oliver Awards.
The family-friendly show is truly unique. During the show, performers combine music, dance and comedy. Everyday objects find a new life on stage, and there is an interplay of sound with storytelling. Set pieces have included broomsticks, hammers, lighters, matchboxes and rubbish bins.
Dubai Opera has unveiled its latest season of shows, and it includes an exciting line-up Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera, explained: “Following a record-breaking 2023 to 24 season, we look forward to once again catering to the entire community and beyond, with a mix of genre-spanning, dynamic and renowned performances.
“From pop to opera, classical ballet to contemporary rhythms, jazz and musicals to symphony, rock music to international folk, and contemporary circus, film and chamber music festivals, this season we will explore performing arts as a crossroads of sounds, languages and cultures.”
