The MGM musical makes its debut in the Middle East.

It’s time to marvel at one of the world’s greatest musicals. Singin’ in the Rain is making its debut in the Middle East, and it will be showing at Dubai Opera. The show runs from 30 November to 5 December, and tickets are available now.

Adapted from the 1952 film, Singin’ in the Rain is a musical romantic comedy. The original film starred Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. Set in the 1920s, it’s a movie about movies, and follows Hollywood’s move from silent films to talkies. The classic songs include Good Morning, Make ’em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the title song, Singin’ in the Rain.

The story follows Don Lockwood, an actor with a vaudevillian background, who tries to save his career. He goes from singing and dancing to his first speaking role in a film. He faces unexpected struggles, especially with his on-screen partner, Lina Lamont.

When Singin’ in the Rain was released, it was a modest success. At the time, it was nominated for two Academy Awards and one BAFTA, and won one Golden Globe Award. Today, it is regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time.

West End Theatre Director Jonathan Church is behind this adaptation of Singin’ in the Rain. The team includes choreographer Andrew Wright, and set designer Simon Higlett. The show will include rain on stage – so, if you’re sitting in the front row, prepare to be splashed.

Tickets to see Singin’ in the Rain are available now, and start from AED 350.
