The event kicks off on 3 January in Abu Dhabi.
Throughout the year, the UAE hosts a variety of festivals and events. Many of these are aimed at celebrating the nation’s rich history. And now, as the new year begins, a fresh addition is making its way to the cultural calendar with the inaugural Al Ain Dates Festival.
The Al Ain Dates Festival will debut in the capital from 3 to 8 January at the Al Hili Oasis in the garden city of Al Ain. The event will focus on the significance of dates and date palms in Emirati culture and shine a spotlight on them.
The inaugural Al Ain Dates Festival will pay homage to the UAE’s fondness for dates and celebrate the harvest season. This fruit is not just a snack for the people in the region, but also a symbol of resilience, hospitality, and abundance.
The Al Ain Dates Festival will showcase the finest dates in the region and host several activities for all ages. Seven date competitions will take place as part of the festival, with prizes worth AED 1.7 million. Date auctions will also be held for those interested, and a photo exhibition will highlight the date palm trees and their importance in Emirati culture.
Expect a well-rounded experience as the festival also brings a traditional market and heritage village with handicrafts, folk art and much more for you to indulge in. A family zone will ensure that the little ones have something to enjoy. Live performances will also be held as part of the event to keep the excitement going.
Apart from appealing to the masses, the event also aims to promote modern agricultural techniques, support local farmers, and highlight the role of dates in food security and economic diversification.
