The new stadium will be completed by late 2029.
Saudi Arabia is making great strides in the world of sports. With international players heading to the Kingdom and the country gearing up to host the FIFA World Cup 2034, there’s plenty happening in the region. Earlier this summer, it was announced that yet another stadium, the King Salman Stadium will be built, and now, new images of this upcoming venue have been revealed.
Poised to be one of the biggest sports stadiums in the world, the King Salman Stadium will be located in Riyadh — next to the recently announced King Salman Park. Covering more than 660,000 square metres, the design is inspired by the local mountainous landscape. With green walls and roofs, the King Salman Stadium will also follow guidelines that promote environmental sustainability.
The King Salman Stadium will have a seating capacity of 92,000. This will include a royal box with 150 seats, 120 hospitality suites, 300 VIP seats, and 2,200 seats for dignitaries. Visitors coming to enjoy the games will be able to enjoy indoor gardens and a walking track offering views of King Abdulaziz Park from the roof — adding to the game-viewing experience.
But the King Salman Stadium will be more than just a sports complex. With commercial centres and recreational areas accessible to all age groups, it aims to be a community hub. Two training fields, fan zones, an indoor sports hall, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an athletics track, and outdoor courts for volleyball, basketball, and padel tennis will be a part of this institution as well, making for an all-encompassing sporting destination.
The King Salman Stadium is expected to be completed by 2029, aligning perfectly with Saudi Vision 2030. Opening right before the FIFA World Cup 2034 in the Kingdom, it’ll definitely be one spot where the matches will be held.
This new stadium in Riyadh joins the New Murabba Stadium and the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya in pulling out all the stops in establishing the Kingdom as a global sports hub. We can’t wait to see what else it has in store.
